Dr. Ken Goldstein, Dr. Steven Goldstein, and Dr. Heather Wilson see patients daily at their practice, Warrenton and Fair Oaks Foot and Ankle Clinic, which has two locations in Warrenton & Fair Oaks, VA. One common problem we see is heel pain.

Our doctors/surgeons are experienced, skilled, and devoted to the highest quality of foot care. They initiate ongoing yearly education and new trends in foot and ankle health.

Painful Heels

Too many heel conditions can cause mild to moderate pain. A few commonly seen conditions causing painful heels are Achilles tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, bursitis, Haglund's deformity, heel spurs, bone bruises, stress fractures, and Sever's disease.

Warning signs of a heel problem include pain, tenderness, soreness in the heel, behind the heel, and underneath the heel, as well as difficulty walking and doing everyday activities.

Warrenton and Fair Oaks Foot and Ankle in Warrenton & Fair Oaks, VA, explain that insignificant heel pain can become chronic, and your treatment options take longer to eliminate your condition. Get treated for painful heels as soon as possible!

Chronic pain that doesn't go away causes further complications, making your condition more difficult to treat. It takes longer for your treatment to see success in eliminating your painful heel problem.

Risk Factors

Some people have risk factors for developing painful heels.

  • Obesity or being slightly overweight
  • Arthritis
  • Flat feet
  • High arches
  • Overuse
  • Wearing improper shoe sizes
  • Shoes with no arch support

Diagnosing Heel Pain

The first thing we must do is physically examine your foot and ankle. We have many tools available to us to arrive at the correct diagnosis, including but not limited to,

  • Physical exam
  • X-rays
  • MRI
  • Ultrasound

Treatment Options

The first step towards ridding yourself of chronic pain is to focus on decreasing inflammation; thus, your pain, stress, and strain decrease, and your flexibility increases.

We may meet these goals through pain relievers, stretching exercises, taping of the foot and ankle, physical therapy, orthotic devices, injections, and immobilization of the foot and ankle, either through a cast or walking boot, and possible surgical intervention.
